Five days in the largest park in East Africa, then a short flight to the coast and five days doing nothing at all. Ruaha is where the southern and eastern species overlap — greater and lesser kudu in the same afternoon — and Zanzibar is the right way to end a trip rather than the way to start one.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1
Fly to Ruaha A morning flight from Dar over the southern highlands, landing on the airstrip inside the park. Afternoon game drive along the Great Ruaha river.
Day 2–4
Ruaha Three full days. The river drives at dawn for elephant and the big buffalo herds, the miombo country inland for kudu and sable, and the escarpment in the late afternoon. Ruaha has the largest lion population of any Tanzanian park and prides here run bigger than in the north.
Day 5
Last morning, fly to Zanzibar A dawn drive, then the flight east to the coast. You are on the beach by mid-afternoon.
Day 6–9
Zanzibar Four nights on the north-east coast. Nothing is scheduled. If you want it, we can arrange a Stone Town walking tour, a spice farm afternoon, a dhow out to the sandbank, or diving off Mnemba — but the default is that you rest.
Day 10
Home Transfer to Zanzibar airport for your onward flight.
