What We Do With Your Details
Written to describe what this website actually does, rather than to cover every eventuality.

Who is responsible
Nera Safaris, 759 Azikiwe St, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, decides how the information described here is used. For anything on this page, write to reservation@nerasafaris.com.
What we collect, and why
When you send an enquiry
Your first and last name, email address, the dates you mentioned, the safari you were looking at, and whatever you wrote in the message box. We also record the country your connection appears to come from and the language you were reading in, so we reply in the right language and quote in the right currency.
We use this to answer you. Our basis for it is that you asked us a question and expect a reply — in legal terms, steps taken at your request before entering a contract.
When you pay a deposit
Everything above, plus your phone number if you give one, how many people are travelling, your intended start date, any notes you add, and a record of the payment: the amount, the date, the reference, and the email address attached to the PayPal account that paid.
We use this to arrange and run your trip, and afterwards to keep the accounting records a business is required to keep.
What we never see
Card numbers, PayPal passwords, and bank details. Payment happens entirely on PayPal's own site. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded and a reference for it — nothing that could be used to charge you again.
If you accept the cookie notice
Google Analytics then records which pages you visit and roughly where you are. If you decline, or simply ignore the notice, none of that is collected and nothing is sent to Google. See the cookie policy for the detail.
Who else handles it
We do not sell your details, and we do not send marketing to people who have not asked for it. These companies process data on our behalf because the site could not work otherwise:
- Cloudflare — hosts this website and stores its database, and forwards email sent to our address.
- Resend — delivers the confirmation and notification emails.
- PayPal — takes deposit payments. PayPal is a controller in its own right for what it does with your payment details; its own privacy notice applies to that.
- Google — Analytics, only after you accept the cookie notice. Maps, only if you click to load the map on the contact page.
Where your details go
We are based in Tanzania, so if you are writing from the UK or the EU your details will be read and acted on outside the UK and EEA. Tanzania is not covered by a UK or EU adequacy decision. Where you have asked us to arrange a trip, that transfer is necessary to do the thing you asked for and to perform our contract with you. If you would rather that did not happen, the answer is not to book — we cannot run a safari in Tanzania without our office in Tanzania seeing who is coming.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that never became a booking — two years, then deleted. People often come back a season or two later, and it is unhelpful to have lost the thread.
- Bookings and payment records — seven years from the end of the trip, which is what accounting and tax rules require of us.
- Messages caught by the spam filter — kept rather than discarded, so a genuine enquiry wrongly flagged can still be found. Cleared periodically.
What you can ask us to do
You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to stop using it, or ask for it in a portable format. If you accepted analytics you can withdraw that at any time — see the cookie policy. Write to reservation@nerasafaris.com and we will reply within a month.
We may not be able to delete a booking record before the seven years are up, because we are required to keep it. We will say so plainly rather than quietly doing nothing.
If you are in the UK or the EU and think we have handled your details badly, you can complain to your national data protection authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office.
Children
This site is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect their details. Children do travel with us — when they do, their details reach us from the adult making the booking.
Changes
If this page changes materially we will change the date at the top. If a change affects someone with a live booking, we will email them rather than rely on them noticing.
